banana is good for:
. anemia
. energy
. mosquito bites
. mood enhancing
. normalizing bowels
. heartburn & morning sickness
. heart, nerve, kidney, & bone health

//\ ||| -= i threw in a handful of each fruit (the strawberries were fresh, but the bananas i already had in the freezer pre-chopped for smoothie-making), a couple heaped spoons of plain non-fat yogurt with a sprinkling of cinnamon, a generous amount of honey (only cos i'd been sneezing all day, you can easily make do with half that amount), & a nice pour of soymilk to silken it a bit otherwise it's mad thick. you may wish to throw in a few ice cubes as well for an even cooler & slushier smoothie.

//\ ||| -= the past two days my ill-stocked kitchen rendered me delusional & slightly desperate, resorting to bread crusts & canned garbanzo beans for nourishment. good news though: my fridge & countertop are overflowing with fruits & veggies once more, so i will be juicing & documenting regularly again!

grapefruit is good for:
. antiseptic
. weight loss
. detoxing the liver
. arthritis prevention
. reducing cholesterol levels
. cancer & stroke risk reduction

//\ ||| -= i really could've done with just one of those three bits of beetroot. crazy strong.

//\ ||| -= when juicing citrus fruits, be sure to peel them completely beforehand otherwise you'll end up with some bitter-ass juice. however, the peel is actually very good for you &, to lessen waste, can be made into candy, marmalade, tea, or a face scrub!

//\ ||| -= sorry for using the same ol' ingredients, if you read my main squeeze you'd know i'm in a cast & crutches at the moment, so it's been a challenge having to depend on others to get my groceries lately! will change up the mixes soon, i promise.

sweet potato is good for:
. anti-inflammatory
. immunity boosting
. strengthening eyesight
. regulating blood-sugar levels
. antioxidant for anti-aging & cancer prevention

//\ ||| -= you can use whichever milk you wish, as well as whichever sweetener you wish. i'll probably opt for just plain soymilk next time. some people like to add a drop or two of vanilla extract, i finished mine with a sprinkling of cinnamon. & it's a good idea to add your sweeteners after blending & tasting, as this latte gets very sweet very fast.

//\ ||| -= if you suffer from allergies & are dreading the forthcoming spring, consuming local raw honey daily will help ward off those unbearable symptoms of sneezing, itchiness, & congestion. invest in the honey most local to you. there is no point in immunizing yourself against allergens in africa when you live in l.a.

~ thank you to: maria & her mum for the latte idea, rhg for reminding me about hempmilk, sabina for the honey tip ~

garlic is good for:
.anti-aging
. immunity boosting
. preventing & treating acne
. minimizing heart disease risk
. blood pressure & cholesterol management
. powerful, broad-spectrum, natural antibiotic

//\ ||| -= if you have an onion, chop that up & throw that in too. unfortunately i ran out. soup is incredibly simple to make -- wash, chop, simmer, blend -- the catch is that it takes seven times longer than making juice, but it's worth it! pair this with toasted multigrain bread drizzled with olive oil.

//\ ||| -= i know this is a juice journal, but i figure soup is pretty much warm juice. & smoothies will likely be included as well, which i figure are pretty much chunky juices. i have both a juicer & a blender - easy kitchen essentials!

.

after returning to los angeles from my most memorable trip to the philippines thus far, -- tropical fruits from the streetside, home-prepped raw meals, freshly made juices, coconuts straight from the tree, friendly kamote, provincial & metropolitan organic markets, barefoot treks to mystical springs, midnight boat rides led by bioluminescence, the richest of sunsets, & curious auroras -- the first thing i bought was a juicer. being a quick way to get a bevy of goodness in my body easily & tastefully, it's my new necessity each morning. as a newbie, not much thought or planning is put into my juicing yet. i have the habit of just using whatever's available in my fridge or on my countertop at the time, although i am aware there are specific combinations that can target specific needs. for now, i'm having fun winging it; mixing unlikely flavors & playing with colors. the vibrant rainbows a sundry of fruits & vegetables reflects cannot be beat, so i'm remembering them through photographs. welcome to antisolidity.
